jQuery <3

A must for every programmer, novice or expert.

I’m surprised that this is only introduced in a third year programming class @ Mac :(

“Clip” your favourite stuff onto your dashboard

Apple, Personal, Quick Tips — admin @ 1:15 pm

I accidentally discover this “cool” tool in my macbook. I have Safari 4.0.4 and it took me a while to figure out what I did…lol. You should see a scissors with dashed line around it at the top of your browser. In my case I have it enabled so it’s not visible. So here’s a short instruction:

1. Go to the specific webpage that you want to “capture”. In my case it was someone’s video that was posted online

2. Go to File, click “Open in Dashboard.” Note that as you move your mouse, a rectangular box will appear. This is an indication of the area space of the intended page captured.

3. A purple bar will appear, choose add.

4. Voila! This will automatically add the video or “clippings” of your choice onto your dashboard. Better yet, you can even customized the frame by selecting the tiny “i” button on the right bottom corner of the web page captured.

Go ahead and have fun :)

Programming

I’ve been in a few programming course before. Albeit to say, the recent one that I am in is sending me straight to hell.

I’m sad to say that my programming is a little rusty (well a lot rusty actually) and well as you can tell, I can’t get into it. I’ve done better programming before when I was taking a Javascript class taught by a real-life programmer rather than a “professor.” No offense but I think it has a lot to do with technique. We should switch gear and try a different method ie. see the coding in real time rather than seeing a bunch of static programming code on the white screen. Or maybe, just maybe…one day McMaster’s Multimedia program will have someone that comes from the “Web Design and Development” background. You know, someone that doesn’t just assume the student understand why they can’t preview their php file in the browser.

Is Google Making Us Stoopid?

Google

“I get fidgety, lose the thread, begin looking for something else to do…”

Sounds familiar? Well you are not alone. I know this isn’t a new article but it sure beats my little head and makes me dizzy with truth.

Alright back to reading.

Oh wait. What was I reading?

Inklet and Pogo Sketch

Apple, Technology — admin @ 2:19 pm

Have you heard of Inklet? This is a relatively new apps for your Macbook. Brought to us by Ten One Design, I absolutely love this little app. It is an app created to emulate a pen. So you can practically draw or write, that of course with the Pogo Sketch and on your TRACKPAD! :) Priced at just $24.95 and $14.95 for Pogo Sketch, you have the convenience of not having to carry your wacom tablet around with you. Although Macbook pro have a slightly small trackpad, it is sometimes enough to just draw some stuff that you need to.

Another feature that maybe useful is the handwriting recognition. I am a little skeptical about this feature considering I like to type more than write nowadays.

All in all, I would say this is quite good. In one review, it was said to be “Wacom’s worst nightmare” and I can see that happening considering the touch technology that has recently took off. Decide for yourself and read more review on this product here. Oh! as a side note, this product only works on the new macbook family so we are talking about Macbook unibody or the macbook white rounded version :).

Support “Live In” at Mills Library

McMaster University — admin @ 3:27 pm

Starting at 12 noon on January 23rd until 12 noon on January 30th, PhD candidate Peter Jansen and second year student Alyson Lamanes have embarked upon the extreme task of camping out 24-7 in the lobby of Mills Memorial Library to support the 2010 Live-in for Literacy (LIL) campaign, raising money to help construct nine school libraries in India through a charity called “Room to Read”.

Live In @ Mills

This is the 2nd year this event takes place. The McMaster Live-in for Literacy chapter aims to raise $2000 dollars this year through the “Live-in” at Mills Library. The event not only supports literacy, but also helps the campers explore their roles in society and the difference they can make.

Ipad

Apple, Technology — admin @ 3:20 pm

I am quite excited about this product and the potential that it has to offer. More specifically the iBook and the fact that you can browse the Internet just like a computer. The price seems reasonable enough starting from $499 for 16G (wifi) to $829 for 64GB (wifi +3G). The 10 hours battery life makes it much more attractive!

Now, most people are skeptical about this product and gave it a “lukewarm” attention and predicted that it will be as “successful” as the Macbook Air. A feature that is not available is the USB port (as opposed to wireless). Which is a downside considering most other peripherals are still using USB port such as camera, external hard drive and speakers. Another feature that I was really hoping to see is the drawing tool such as the one that was circulating on the Internet for quite some time. I may be mistaken but I don’t see it being featured. However, there are already an apps for iPod for drawing tool so I guess you can use that on your iPad. I wonder if you can install other programs/software for iPad?

So what do you think of Apple’s new product?

Moving on…

How do you move on with life knowing that one person that meant so much in your life had passed away and you didn’t even get to say goodbye…?
